The Oath of Office

The oath of office that every Orem City Council Member takes is this:

“I do solemnly swear that I will support, obey, and defend the Constitution of the United States, the Constitution of the State of Utah, and the laws and ordinances of the City of Orem, and that I will discharge the duties of my office in the City of Orem with fidelity.”

Fidelity is typically defined as: “Faithfulness to a person, cause, or belief, demonstrated by continuing loyalty and support.”

Therefore I make a promise to the people of Orem to keep my oath. I will discharge the duties of my office to Constitutional principles with complete fidelity!

The purpose of government is to secure individual rights and enforce individual duties. The Constitutions of this land were created to do just that! Therefore, I will use those Constitutional principles, which made this country so strong, as the foundation of my decision making as a city council member.
